Question Scripture

Can faith and science both tell the truth?

A starting answer for people who feel forced to choose between Christian faith, Scripture, science, and intellectual honesty.

Many people are handed a false choice: either take faith seriously or take science seriously.

That choice is too small. The Christian claim is not that the world is less real because God made it. The claim is that the world is more meaningful because it is creation.

What We Often Hear

Some voices use science as a weapon against faith. Some religious voices treat every scientific question as a threat. Both reactions can teach people to fear careful thought.

But truth is not fragile. If God is the maker of heaven and earth, then honest attention to the world is not an enemy of worship.

What Scripture Actually Says

Scripture does not read like a laboratory manual, and it should not be flattened into one. It tells us who made the world, what the world is for, what has gone wrong with human beings, and where hope is found.

The created world also speaks. The heavens declare glory. Wisdom pays attention to ants, seasons, bodies, fields, animals, and the ordinary patterns of life.

What Scripture Leaves Open

The Bible does not answer every modern scientific question in the categories we now use. That should make us careful, not embarrassed.

Christians have often disagreed about how to interpret particular passages in relation to nature, history, and observation. Disagreement does not mean Scripture has failed. It means interpretation requires humility.

Adjacent Wisdom

The deeper question is not only, “Can I believe this fact?” It is also, “What kind of person am I becoming as I seek truth?”

Pride can wear a lab coat or carry a Bible. Humility can learn from both careful study and faithful worship.

One Small Step Today

Name one scientific question that unsettles you. Then ask a better second question: what exactly would have to be true for this to threaten faith?

Common questions

Does science make faith unnecessary?
Science can describe many processes in the created world, but it does not answer every question about meaning, goodness, worship, sin, hope, or why there is something rather than nothing.
Should Christians be afraid of honest study?
No. Christians should be patient, humble, and truthful. Fear often produces shallow answers; faith can afford careful attention.
